He offers appointments for:

      - Herbal consultations

Acupuncture

Our licensed acupuncturists have many years of experience in the field, a solid reputation in the comm

unity, and also are the instructors at our school.  Private appointments are available at your preference.  You will be in excellent hands.

Cost: Initial visit 90-min to 2 hrs $130, Follow-up visits 1hr - $90

COMMUNITY ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC, walk-in availability

Community acupuncture is a nationwide movement to create access to acupuncture by removing the barrier of cost from healing. We use acupoints on the ears, head and face, and below the elbows and knees to treat the entire body, so there’s no need to undress – just remove your shoes and roll up your pants and sleeves. And yes, we can even address your back pain by treating other parts of your body.

You will be surrounded by other people quietly receiving treatment at the same time. Patients benefit many ways from the community setting. In our busy society, it is not often we stop and take time to relax while surrounded by our peers. This is not a lack of privacy but an opportunity to experience treatment with family, friends and community. As with any intentional group endeavor, the shared state makes individual treatments more powerful. Here, the patients create the healing atmosphere as much as the practitioner.

Cost: Initial visit $65, Follow-up visits are $45. MILITARY BONUS:  Community Clinic is FREE for military & veterans.

STUDENT ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

Student Clinic consists of two phases.  In the first phase, students participate in 168 hours of observation of a senior practitioner. During this period, students are also studying theory, point location, pulse reading and needle technique.  All of the needling in this phase is done by the senior practitioner.  As students complete difference stages of their learning, they may provide supportive functions in the clinic.

In the second phase, students begin to treat patients.  In order to enter this phase of the clinic program, they have to pass several exams.  Throughout this phase, students are supervised by a senior practitioner from intake, to treatment planning to treatment and aftercare planning.  We encourage our patients to give us written and verbal feedback throughout clinic.  There is an evaluation form we provide to patients to complete after their first visit.

In student clinic, we work as a team and so our patients get the benefit of several minds working for their benefit.  The clinic fees are very reasonable, another benefit.

Cost: Initial visit 90-min to 2 hrs, $65. Follow-up visits, $55.  It greatly benefits our students and helps them meet certain requirements if we can plan to see you at least 4 times. This also provides greater benefit to you in the changes you will see over this timeframe.

Herbs

herbs

Herbology is one of the 4 main branches of Oriental medicine.  It can be used as a stand-alone therapy, but is most often used in combination with acupuncture, bodywork, or medical qigong.

Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years, and many formulas still used today haven't changed at all in the past 500 years. This is quite a tribute to their power and effectiveness!

Herbs are used very differently than prescribed medications.

Herbs are a natural part of the Earth and their purpose is to provide medicine to heal both animals and humans.  With herbs, we merge with the intelligence of the plant and allow it to guide our body back to doing what it is supposed to be doing - but isn't for whatever reason.  They also have the added benefit of being extremely safe and carry very little risk of undesirable side effects when used properly.

Most herbs are intended for short-term use and are not something taken to rely on for extended periods of time.  The herbs will help re-balance you, and then it is up to you to make the necessary lifestyle changes to maintain this new balance. Don't worry, though - often the changes that herbs bring are a catalyst to help align your mind-body-spirit and you realize life changes that you really wanted to have happen.

Herbs can be used to treat many symptoms of disharmony, such as:

  • pain and discomfort
  • weak internal organs
  • detoxification
  • weight loss
  • sleeping problems
  • PMS and other menstrual issues
  • stuck emotional patterns
  • digestive issues
  • weak or torn muscles, tendons & ligaments
  • broken bones
  • and much more.....

We do not usually recommend taking herbs if you are also taking a complex of prescribed medications or other herbs. When seeing an herbalist for a consultation it is a good idea to bring with you all medications, herbs and supplements that you are currently taking. If it is your desire to decrease or eliminate your intake of prescribed medications please consult your conventional doctor as that is outside of our scope of practice.

Essential Oils

Essential Oils from the Alaska Institute for Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy

"All healing modalities are a reflection on the pre-requisites of life.  Healing is about healing life.
The consciousness that produces disease is not the same consciousness that produces healing."
~ Jeffrey Yuen, Taoist Priest, Chinese Medical Aromatherapy Expert
Essential oils are powerful herbal substances that can be used topically, diffused into the air, and sometimes even ingested. (Do not ingest essential oils without appropriate guidance or knowledge.)

Essential oils capture the essence of a plant. This "essence" includes the physical healing capabilities of plants and herbs, the aroma and way they play on our psyche and emotions, and the fundamental way that plants connect with the nature of our own human Spirit.

Chinese medicine relates the essential oil of a plant to the Jing Level, a very deep and foundational level. Because of this, essential oils will also connect to human Jing Level, and in this way can be used to affect the deepest levels of our physical health, emotions, and even spiritual aspects of our destiny.

Some of the ways our trained therapists use Essential Oils:
  • Custom blend for your massage
  • Part of Hot/Cold Stone Therapy
  • With Acupressure Foot Reflexology
  • In the air during your treatment
  • Spinal application
  • Part of an herbal regimen
  • Custom blends for many physical and emotional symptoms

5 Element Nutrition

5 Element Nutrition consulting

Based in Taoist philosophy, Chinese medicine includes nutrition as a main method of healing used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture, massage, QiGong energy, and herbs.

Nutrition is so powerful because it is part of our Earth element, our core or center.   Our center is responsible for nourishing every aspect of our bodymindspirit, from our cells, blood, and hormones to our bones, muscles, moods, thoughts and ideas.

In 5-Element Nutrition consulting, we look at your overall diet and analyze it based on the energetic properties of what you regularly consume.  These properties include the energetic flavor (salty, sour, pungent, sweet, and bitter), the area of your body the food is energetically directed to (up, down, in, out), the methods of cooking and their effect, and the energetic temperature (cold, cool, neutral, warm hot).  We identify areas of excess and deficiency.  This information allows us to give you an overall assessment based on your goal.  We take into consideration your preferences, likes, and dislikes, and then make a series of suggestions, options, and ways to gently and realistically incorporate small changes that will assist you in achieving your goal.

The 5-Element approach is energetic and based on natural whole organic foods with a minimum of supplements occasionally recommended.

We do not:

  • count calories
  • define food into proteins, fats and carbohydrates
  • break down the vitamin and mineral content
  • promote extreme diets
  • make judgments based on whether or not you eat meat

Much of our success lies in simplicity, finding the beauty in real food, and using moderation as a guiding principle.

We work with:

  • overall lifestyle changes
  • weight imbalances
  • detoxification
  • specific symptoms of pain and discomfort
  • chronic conditions

In addition we support your body’s natural healing ability when going through treatment for any serious disease.

Integrative medicine is important to us.  We can provide a primary nutrition program designed to meet your health goals, and we also provide secondary nutritional support to any Western or Eastern medical programs you are following.
